Ruth Byrum Thompson “Granny”, 97, passed away on Thursday, February 8, 2018.  She was born in Philadelphia, TN but resided most of her life in Chattanooga.  Ruth was employed by Peerless Woolen Mills and Tri-County Nursing Home.  She always had a passion for working hard, whether it was tending to flower gardens or building a house, Ruth was never one to sit on the sideline.  As long as her health allowed, she always kept busy with things dear to her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Thompson; son, Billy Robert Thompson; daughter, Shirley Horner; grandson, Frank Horner, Jr.; daughter-in-law, Jackie Thompson; and son-in-law, Frank Horner, Sr.

Survivors include her son, Buck Thompson; grandchildren, Leigh (Jonathan) Speal, Amber (Rob) Brock, Whitney (Mike) Arnold, Andy Thompson, Donna (Tommy) Head, and Deborah (Carl) Deal; thirteen great grandchildren; fifteen great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 13th at 12:00p.m. in the South Crest Chapel.

Interment will follow in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday, February 11th from 2-5p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
