Wilma Kelly Greer passed peacefully from this world into the presence of our Lord on November 14, 2017 at the age of 103.

Mrs. Greer was born in Porter, Alabama on February 28, 1914.  The daughter of Ira and Lilly Kelly she grew up in West Jefferson, Alabama where her dad worked as a supervisor at Bessie Mines. Her mother died at a young age and her father moved the family to Chattanooga, Tennessee. She was married at 17 to Ira Dalton Greer and they were blessed with seven children, one that did not survive infancy. Mrs. Greer worked various jobs and eventually retired at age 75 from The Department of Human Resources in Chattanooga. Throughout her life, Mrs. Greer (Granny Greer) was known for her sharp wit and compassionate spirit. She loved God and believed in helping everyone she could… this included any cat that wondered into her yard. She was especially happy when her large family got together. Nothing gave her more joy than being with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her neighbors and church were special blessings in her life offering unsolicited help over a long period of years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Dalton Greer, infant son Clarence Greer, sister, Louise (Weezie) Meroney, son, James Greer, daughters, Betty Rozell and Martha Greer Arnold.

 

Mrs. Greer is survived by her daughters, Billie Friddell (Dunlap,Tn.) and Peggy Talley (Birmingham, Al.), a son, Earl Greer (Youngville, La.), multiple grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

 

Graveside Services for Wilma Greer will be held at 2:30 p.m. at Tennessee Georgia Memorial Park on Wednesday, November 15.

 

Family members would especially like to give thanks to all caregivers that have helped in so many ways these past several years.

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
