Tribute

Retired Air Force Senior Master Sgt., Arthur Richard Bowers passed away peacefully at NHC of Chattanooga Monday, January 27, 2020.  Arthur (Art) was born January 25, 1931 to Wm. E. and Edith Grant Bowers.

 

Arthur proudly served in the United States Air Force active and reserves for 30 years.  After his Air Force retirement he also retired from Erlanger Hospital with several years of service.  Among his many honors and awards, he served as a Boy Scout Leader and earned the prestigious Order of the Arrow Award. Arthur was of the Baptist faith.

 

Art lived his life with great enthusiasm and unforgettable wit.  He loved fishing, metal detecting, the Civil War, woodworking, and traveling.  He was an avid collector and dealer of antiques and more.

 

He was preceded in death by his devoted wife of 52 years, Rosa Wilhelmina Navis Bowers; his parents, and nine brothers and sisters.

 

Left to cherish his memory are sister-in-law, Nell McBryar; nieces, Frankie Ott and Brenda (Dan) Kilgore; nephew, Joe (Patsy) Mode along with many more nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Arthur’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org.

 

The family expresses great appreciation to all the staff of NHC of Chattanooga with special thanks to Zinda, David, Brittney, and Angel.  And also Meredith and Amanda of Hospice of Chattanooga.  The family is especially grateful to Darrell Smith for his continued care, love, and support.

 

Graveside services will be held Monday, February 3rd, 2020 at 1pm in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with Darrell Smith officiating.  Full Military Honors will be provided by the United States Air Force.

 

Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville, GA.
