Bob E. McMurray

Mr. Bob E. McMurray, 88, of Chattanooga, TN passed away on Thursday, March 16, 2023.  Bob was born in Chattanooga, TN on February 21, 1935 to the late Mr. Johnnie McMurray and Mrs. Velma Jackson McMurray.

Bob was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga area.  He graduated from Tyner High School Class of ’53.  Bob was very athletic and is a member of the Softball Hall of Fame for starting the Modified Softball League which is now nationwide.  Bob spent a long career with the Recreational Department of East Chattanooga where he coached a wide range of sports for inner city kids.  Bob also spent over 20 years working at MAC-CO motors of Rossville with his son, Mark and worked for the Chattanooga Times.  Bob was a member of Ooltewah Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Mary Reece McMurray, his parents, and sister, Betty McMurray.

He is survived by his two sons; Rick (Mary Christine) McMurray and Mark (Diane) McMurray, grandchildren; Amber Schiller, Melissa Jarnagin, Cordell and Carl Roberts and great grandchildren; Johnathon, Michael, Joanna, Nicolas, Melonie, A.J., Sky, Alyssa, Molly, and Brisyn.

A funeral service for Bob will be conducted in the chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory South Crest chapel on Wednesday, March 22, 2023 at two o’clock in the afternoon with Mike Petengill officiating.  Interment will follow the service at Greenwood Cemetery, Chattanooga

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 from 3-8 pm and again on Wednesday from 11-2.
