Charles “Red” Edward Thomas, 78, of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 6, 2022.  Charles was born in Chattanooga, TN on January 13, 1944 to the late Mr. Charles Thomas and Mrs. Dorothy Griffin Thomas.

 

Charles will be remembered as a very patriotic man.  He served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War and was stationed on the U.S.S. Iwojima.  He was a 1964 graduate of Gordon Lee High School where he played football, Ran track and was elected Most Dependable by his classmates.  He also coached a ladies softball team later on in life.  Charles was a cobbler by trade and owned and operated Thomas Shoe Repair as the fourth generation.  Charles also bought a newspaper every day to know what was going on in the world. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joann Thomas, His parents, brother, Donald Thomas and nephew, Brian Bledsoe.

 

Charles is survived by his sister, Thelma Bledsoe and partner, Wanda Mitchell Lucius.  Many nieces and nephews also survive to cherish his memory.

 

A graveside service for Charles will be conducted at Chattanooga National Cemetery on Thursday, August 11, 2022 at 1:30 pm with military honors rendered.

 

The family will receive friends at Lane Funeral Home and Crematory South Crest Chapel on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 from 4-8pm.
