Doris Eloise (Meadows) Medley

Doris Medley, 82, of St. Elmo passed away Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at her home.  She was a native of Dekalb County Alabama, had lived most of her life in the Chattanooga area and was of the Baptist Faith.  She retired in 1983 as a substitute teacher with Chattanooga City Schools with eleven years of service.  Mrs. Medley was known for her selflessness, always putting others first.  Her passions in life were spending time with her family, enjoying her vegetable garden, quilting, needle working, and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Clyde Medley; parents, Loomis and Hester Meadows; two sons, Michael and Steven Disman and three brothers, L.D. Meadows, Charles Meadows, and Jerry Meadows.

Survivors include three children, Martin Medley, Kenneth Medley, and Scott Medley, all of Chattanooga; special daughter-in-law, Beverly Hurley of Wilmington, N.C.; three brothers, Jesse Meadows of Ft. Oglethorpe, Ricky (Doris) Meadows of Ringgold and Johnny Meadows of Chattanooga; sister-in-law, Sharon Meadows; four grandchildren, Chris (Christina) Medley, Jennifer (Joey) Richardson, Emily Medley, and Amanda Medley; two great grandchildren, Caroline and Kian Michael; several nephews; and one niece.

Funeral services will be held Sunday at 2:00p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Carson L. Scarbrough officiating.

Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4-8 and Sunday from 12 noon until the funeral hour at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
