Edwin "E.J." Newsome

Edwin Jess “E.J.” Newsome, 68 of Ringgold, passed away Thursday, October 8th, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

E.J. was born in Dayton, TN and graduated from Kirkman High School. He was drafted into the US Army shortly after high school and was stationed in Germany at the Berlin Wall. After being discharge, E.J. worked at Rossville Spinning, Mueller, Buster Brown, and then retired from Belvis Rope Co. He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of the American Legion Post #40. E.J. enjoyed watching John Wayne westerns, listening to classic country music, framing artwork, fishing, camping, and had a wealth of knowledge of all kinds of sports. He was a fun-loving, light hearted, jokester, who loved to laugh and above all else loved his family.

E.J. was preceded in death by his wife, Sheila Newsome; parents, Frank and Zenora Neusom; and sister, Darlene Ridge.

Survivors include his children: Brian (Dena) Newsome and Kelly (Michael) Smith; grandchildren: Justin, Gabrielle, and Jessica Newsome, Christian and Michaela Smith, and John Michael Newsome; great grandchildren: Trinity, Kairie, Jameson, and Ada; siblings: Shirley Kesley, Rosetta Newsome, Sammie Jean Neusom, Eddie Newsom, and Charles Newsom; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, October 11th, 2020 at 4pm in the South Crest Chapel. Interment will be held Monday, October 12th at 10:30am in the Chattanooga National Cemetery with military honors.
