James Anthony “Tony” Cordell, Sr., 76 of East Ridge passed away Tuesday, January 7th, 2020 in a local healthcare facility.
Tony lived most of his life in East Ridge. After high school he received a Technical degree as an Electrician. He worked at Lockheed and McDonald Douglas having worked on the F-4 Phantom and the Gemini Mercury Space Program. He retired in 1987 from Bell South with over 25 years as a Lineman. Tony was a member of a Masonic Lodge in the Chattanooga area. In his free time, he enjoyed history, relic hunting with his metal detector, smoking his pipe, playing his banjo, loved music and dancing, and was an avid Alabama fan.
Tony was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Dunbar and parents, Roy and Margaret Cordell.
Survivors include his son, Stephen Cordell (Alex Wiwczaroski); brother, Johnny Dunbar (Rita); two grandchildren, Kenshin Lee Cordell and Kaia Edith Cordell; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 9th at 1pm in the South Crest Chapel. Interment will follow in the Forest Hills Cemetery.
