Janet “Jan” Roach Hyde Kophamer
Jan was born July 3, 1936 in Ooltewah, TN to Luther and Rachel Mason Roach. The family soon relocated to East Ridge where she and her sibling, David Roach, grew up. She attended North Georgia schools and graduated Lakeview High School, class of 1954.
Her first employment was with Provident Life & Accident Insurance in the Savings & Loan department. She was first hired on in the Executive Offices as a Junior Executive Secretary at the Miller Brother Company. She was promoted to Assistant Store Superintendent and remained there 8 more years.
Later Jan returned to Insurance and Real Estate; Pryor Bacon Real Estate and General Insurance, Richard W. Bethea & Associates, and still later, Gloria Sutton Realtors. Next, Jan joined the Sales & Decorating staff at Jernigan’s Furniture and enjoyed several successful years in sales & decorating.
Her new venture would be with Ben Haden Evangelical Association; also known as Change Lives, an International Radio & Television Ministry. He soon promoted Jan to Media Director, where she remained another 10 years until she met the man she was to marry, Maurice Carl “Maury” Kophamer from the Great San Joaquin Valley in California. They made their home there in California, maintaining a vacation home on Lookout Mountain. He preceded her in death in July 2015.
She leaves behind two sons, Michael LeBron (Norma Jean) Hyde and Mark Stanton (Melissa) Hyde; one grandson, Dereck Alexander (Brooke) Hyde; one granddaughter, Candice (Darren) Sharpe and 3 great-grandsons: Sidney, Dalton, and Ashton, what a joy they brought into her life. Also surviving is her brother, David Glen (Sarah) Roach. Mr. Kophamer brought into their marriage much joy and happiness, two sons and two daughters, 10 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren. A loving goodbye to lifelong friends Shirley Anyon of Austin, Texas, Charlene Roach Baldwin of Chattanooga, TN, Brenda Kophamer of Jacksonville, Florida and Francesca Kophamer Salzar of Long Beach California.
Jan’s church affiliation, early in adult life was Methodist, later she chose First Presbyterian PCA of Chattanooga and of Bakersfield, California. Most recently, she was devoted to Born Again Christian Church. She accepted Christ at a very young age, but it would be her later years that her Christian experience would become so enriched. She loved Jesus, God & Country. “Parents, teach your children to know Jesus and of their Christian Heritage.”

A Memorial service will be held, Sunday, January 6th, 2019 at 1:30pm with Pastors Donald Rollins, James Powell, and Rick Freeby officiating at Born Again Christian Church, 1228 Latta Street Chattanooga, TN.
Arrangements are by the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
