JoAnn McGuire Ashworth, 83 of Ft. Oglethorpe, went home to be with her Lord on Thursday, September 19, 2019.
JoAnn was born in Ft. Oglethorpe, GA where she attended Lakeview High School until the 9th grade when her father was deployed to France during World War II. While in France, she met and married the father of her children, Bob McGuire. They moved back to the U.S. and lived in the North Georgia area where they raised their three children. JoAnn worked with her husband, Bob, for many years in the “Prison Fellowship” ministries in the North Georgia and Chattanooga areas. She also served as a “Pink Lady” volunteering at Hutcheson hospital for over 20 years. JoAnn was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed participating in and coordinating church activities and functions. She met and married Greeley Ashworth and together they worked in the prison ministries through Peavine Baptist Church. JoAnn truly had a servant’s heart.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her husband of over 30 years, Bob McGuire; husband of over 20 years, Greeley Ashworth; son, Michael McGuire; parents, Joe and Hesta Hurt; and brother, Charles Hurt.
Survivors include her children, Don (Kathryn)McGuire and Joy McGuire Love; grandchildren, Marty McGuire, Laura Fox, Michelle Ross, Hannah Matthews, Nicholas Herring, and Mindy Polster; six great grandchildren; brothers, John(Darlene) Hurt and Ed (Charlette) Hurt; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held, Sunday, September 22nd at 2pm in the South Crest Chapel with Pastors Denny Patrick and Ed Craft officiating. Interment will follow in Tennessee-Georgia Memorial Park.
