John Leonard Hickman

John L. Hickman, III, 72, of Augusta, GA passed away Monday, September 20, 2021 at his home in Augusta, GA.  Mr. Hickman was a native of Rossville where he was a 1967 graduate of Rossville High School.  He was a United States Army Veteran having served in Vietnam.  Mr. Hickman was an active member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church in Augusta where he enjoyed making coffee in the mornings and working with the Security Team.  He retired in 2013 from Southern Company where he worked as an Electrician for 37 years.  He was a member of the Southern Company Ambassadors Retiree Group.  He was an avid golfer and a member of the Applewood Golf Course where he also worked as a Ranger.  Mr. Hickman was a faithful and loyal friend.  He was always helping others taking them to the grocery stores and doctors’ appointments.  He truly loved helping others.  His passions in life were God, his family, playing golf, and spending time with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, JoAnna Hickman; and parents, John L. Hickman, Jr. and Sarah Barbara Hickman.

Survivors include his children, John Chad Hickman and Shannon (Chris) Smith; brother, James (Karen) Hickman; sisters, Babs (Charlie) Reeves and Debbie (Roger) Ridge; grandchildren, Jacob (Hanna), Sinjin, Jackson (Kolbey), Rachel, and Kelly; great grandchildren, Carson and Hadleigh; great granddaughter to be, Addy Jo; aunt, Ann (Den) Quinn; and several nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, October 16th at 2:00p.m. at Lumpkin Road Baptist Church with Pastor Don Stone officiating.

A Private interment will be held at the Chattanooga National Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive friends Thursday, September 23rd from 4-8p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville, GA.
