Joyce Charlene Miller

July 22, 1937 ~ August 26, 2020 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Tribute

Joyce Charlene Miller, 82, went peacefully to be with her Savior on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at National Health Care of Rossville.

By most, Charlene was affectionally known as “Hunky”. She was born on July 22, 1938 in Flintstone, the daughter of Luther Charleston Howard and Ethel Lucille Morris Howard.

She was married on October 25, 1968 in Ringgold to Ernie Miller, who passed away a year ago on August 09, 2019. A marriage of 50 years, where their life was filled with simple pleasures such as tending to their cats and dogs, watching TV, picking blackberries, going to work even into their 70s, and of course going to Walmart.

Early in their marriage, along with her son, they would travel to various American attraction spots bringing home many souvenir plates. At some point she became a collector of Mattel dolls, from Barbie to Celebrity Dolls and Collectable Characters. Then one of her greatest joys, much to the dismay of her husband and son, was spoiling her only granddaughter, Brandy.

Charlene enjoyed working with her hands, taught herself how to crochet, knit, weave, macramé, and with her husband and son did ceramics. She crafted the most beautiful afghans, blankets, stuffed character animals, and doll dresses. Along with crochet potholders, dishcloths, air freshener dolls, holiday dolls, and macramé hanging planters nothing was too small or too large.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Morris Howard.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, James Edward “Ed” (Myrtis) Craig, Jr., of Rossville; granddaughter, Brandy (Tim) Jones, and great granddaughter, Eve Jones of Wales; sister, Wanda (Ed) Forman of Big Canoe; brother, Steven “Bud” (Ann) Howard of Ringgold; and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A very special thank you goes out to her niece, Hazel Brown who helped her and Ernie over the years. Hazel was ever faithful in checking up on them, running errands, visiting both in the nursing home, and tending to their animals.
