Hurley Leon “Porkchop” Campbell/George White, 73 of Chickamauga passed on to that which is next on Wednesday, October 2nd, 2019.

 

Leon was born in Chattanooga and never felt a desire to get too far away. He attended Marion County High School and participated in the construction of the I-24 highway. Leon served his country proudly in the US Army and was a field artillery specialist and an expert rifleman during Vietnam. After returning to the states, Leon could not wait to marry his sweetheart, Gail. He worked for over 20 years at Chattem and retired after 13 years from Adman Electric as a delivery coordinator. Leon was a hardworking, family man that laid the ground work for his children to have a better life.

 

Leon was preceded in death by his wife of almost 49 years, Gail Campbell; adoptive parents, Mr. and Mrs. White; biological parents, George and Jewell Campbell; siblings: Margaret Morgan, Ruth Strawn, Richard E. Gladney, Hugh White, Mary Jasmine White, Doris Elizabeth White; brothers-in-law, Oscar Morgan and Richard Hall.

 

Survivors include his sons: Marcus Leon Campbell and Jeremy Earl Campbell; brother, James Gladney; sister-in-law, Betty Paris; adopted grandson, Maxwell Gray Wagner; several informally adopted children; and several nieces, nephews, and many friends.   

 

Funeral services will be held, Saturday, October 5th, 2019 at 3pm in the South Crest chapel with Tim Lynch officiating.

 

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society at cancer.org.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 10am until the funeral hour in the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, Rossville.
