Mary D. Duran, 96, of Chickamauga went home to be with the Lord on Monday, June 1, 2020. Mrs. Duran was a lifelong resident of the Chattanooga and North Georgia area. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickamauga where she was known for greeting you with a hug and a smile. Mrs. Duran retired in the late 1960’s from Dupont with twenty years of service. Mrs. Duran loved God, her family, her friends, and “get togethers”. She was a Southern Lady and a social butterfly. She was always dressed for the occasion, with her jewelry on and her hair fixed. Mrs. Duran also loved her flowers and working in the yard.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William “Bill” Duran; grandson, Stephen Runyan; brothers, James Dunn and George Dunn; and sisters, Billie Hambley and JoAnn McNabb.
Survivors include her children, Steve (Debbie) Runyan, of Murfreesboro, TN, Gene Runyan of Lookout Mountain, GA, Susan McBryar of Ft. Oglethorpe, GA, Terri (Corky) Jewell of Chickamauga, GA, and Ron (Judy) Duran of Rossville, GA; brother, Roy Dunn of Jasper, TN; eight grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers donations in memory of Mrs. Duran may be made to the First Baptist Church of Chickamauga or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at www.stjude.org.
Funeral services will be held Friday at 12 noon at the First Baptist Church of Chickamauga at 603 W. 7th Street, Chickamauga, GA 30707 with Reverend Ken McCoy and Reverend Sean Maxwell officiating. If you are unable to attend, Mrs. Duran’s funeral services will be webcasted through the church’s Facebook page.
Interment will be in the Chattanooga National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the Church.
