Mike Torbett

 

Michael L. “Mike” Torbett, 78, of the Lakeview community passed away Friday, November 22, 2019.  Mike was a lifelong resident of the Lakeview Community.  He was a 1959 graduate of Lakeview High School and a founding member of Wade’s Warriors.  Mike was a lifelong member of the Lakeview First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school for many years, served as Deacon, and was active with CIA “Christians in Action”, AIMM, and World Changers.  He was the owner of Torbett Construction and he served in the United States Air National Guard from 1960-1965.  First and foremost Mike loved the Lord!  He loved God, his family, and his church.  He was known for his outgoing personality and one who was always lending a helping hand to others.  He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, playing softball and golf. 

 

He was preceded in death by his son, Brad Torbett; parents, Verlan and Sybil Torbett; three brothers, Sam, Pat, and Ikey Torbett; and brother-in-law, Terry Williams.

 

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Jimmie Ruth Torbett; two children, Connie (Brian) Dye of Huntsville, AL and Patti Godfrey of Flintstone, GA; daughter-in-law, Tanya Torbett of Lafayette, GA; sister, Kaye Williams of Rossville, GA; eight grandchildren, Sara Dye, Katie (Jeremy) Crews, Rebekah (Gary) Hamner, Lydia Dye; Riley Godfrey, Lauren Torbett, Megan Torbett, and Jenna Torbett; two great grandchildren, William Hamner and Emmaus Crews; and several nieces and nephews.

In memory of Mr. Torbett donations may be made to the Lakeview First Baptist Church at 10 Hudson St, Rossville, GA 30741.

 

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00p.m. at Lakeview First Baptist Church with Pastor Patrick Cooper officiating.  Mr. Torbett will lie in state at the church Monday from 11:00a.m. until the funeral hour.

 

Interment will follow in the Lakewood South Memory Gardens.

 

The family will receive friends Sunday from 4-7p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
