Ollie Elizabeth "Sis" (Hickman) Rogers

April 22, 1925 ~ November 10, 2019 (age 94) 94 Years Old

Tribute

Ollie Elizabeth “Sis” Rogers, 94, of Ft. Oglethorpe went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, November 10, 2019.  Mrs. Rogers was born on April 22, 1925 in Smokemont, NC to the late Bruce and Annie Hickman.  She spent her youth years in Jasper, TN where she had many loving memories.  Her family moved to the Chattanooga area in 1940 and she lived in Ft. Oglethorpe since 1958.  Mrs. Rogers retired in 1975 having worked at Richmond Hosiery Mills, Rossville Yarns, and Peerless Woolen Mills and she was a member of the Ft. Oglethorpe First Baptist Church for many years.  Mrs. Rogers had a servant’s heart.  She was the neighborhood mother to many children in Ft. Oglethorpe and it was said that “More food went through her kitchen than any restaurant.  The groceries went in and love came out”.  She always had a smile on her face and she never met a stranger.  As much as she loved people, people loved her just as much.  She was known for her love of family, her cooking, her kindness, her generosity, and she loved working in her yard enjoying the outdoors.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Hershel Rogers; four brothers, Arnold, Felix, Homer, and Odis Hickman; and a sister, Anne Raines.

Survivors include her three children, John (Doris) Rogers of Chatsworth, James (Debbie) Rogers of Rock Spring, and Deborah (Gary) Masterson of Rossville; two brothers, Bruce and Kenneth Hickman; two sisters, Helen Ketner and Linda Bayne; six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of friends.
