Raymond Nix, 87 of Rossville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 1, 2021.
Raymond was born in Section, AL and graduated from Scottsboro High School where he played on the basketball team. He retired as Reverend from Philadelphia Baptist Church and helped to pastor many other churches. Raymond also retired from Standard Coosa Thatcher as a millwright after many years of service. He played in bluegrass and gospel music groups where he sang, played guitar, and even wrote a few songs. Raymond was an Alabama football fan, “Roll Tide!,” enjoyed tending his vegetable garden, and building toys for the grandchildren in his garage. He loved spending time with his family and will be remembered as a wonderful father and provider for his family. Raymond also loved his church and church members dearly.
Raymond was preceded in death by his father and step-mother, Roy and “Tookie’ Nix; mother, Nellie Owens; and brother, Wendell “Chick” Nix.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Martha Nix; children: Ricky (Diane) Nix, Jeff (Joy) Nix, and Deedra (Ron) Avans; grandchildren: Stephanie (Frankie) Friddell; Derek (Kim) Nix; and Shala (Mahdi Bouzadia) Avans; great grandchildren: Ethan, Delilah, Landon, Clay, Hadley, and Ilyas; brother, Gary (Rhonda) Nix; sister, Brenda (Danny) Bellomy; sister-in-law, Carolyn Nix Cooper; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 7th, 2021 at 4pm in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. David Stancil officiating. Interment will be held Saturday at 11am in the Lakewood Memory Gardens South.
