Terry Sherman Nida

Terry Sherman Nida, 63, of Hixson, TN went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 24, 2021 at his home with his family by his side.  Terry lived most of his life in the Chattanooga and North Georgia area.  He was a 1976 graduate of Rossville High School. He went on to attend UTC and later received his Associates Degree from Chattanooga State. 

In 1984 Terry began his funeral career at TN-GA Memorial Park where he worked for 20 years and later purchased in 2004. He also owned and operated Anderson and Catoosa Memorial Gardens, Gordy Memorial Gardens, Haven of Rest Memorial Park, Gordon Memorial Gardens, and Lake Hills Memorial Gardens. 

Terry was a member of Hixson First Baptist Church for the past 23 years serving as Deacon, Sunday School Teacher, and on numerous committees throughout the years.  He enjoyed going on mission trips and supporting missionaries around the world.  Terry was a member of the Rossville Kiwanis Club, Trenton Optimist Club, Rossville Exchange Club serving as Past President, Rossville Lion’s Club, Rossville High School Alumni Association, the Walker County Chamber of Commerce, Georgia Cemetery Association serving as Past President, Tennessee Cemetery Association, and he was Past President of the Alabama Alumni and Friends Association-Chattanooga Chapter.

                Terry loved the Lord with all of his heart.  He showed this love in the way he served his community, helped others in need, and being a man of his word.  He loved his family dearly.  He showed this love by spending quality time with them, coaching his children and grandchildren throughout the years, and always being there for them.  Terry was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide fan and was even recognized as the number one Alabama Fan in Chattanooga.  Some know him as Mixed Up Terry.  He enjoyed attending games and traveling. He visited 49 out of the 50 states. He also loved spending time with his family and friends at his lake house.

He was preceded in death by his son, Bradley Owen Nida; father, James Nida; mother, Barbara Nida; brother, Jim Hood and father-in-laws, Marion Holland and Samuel Bryant.

Survivors include his loving wife of 40 years, Diedre Nida; three children, Blake (Lorie) Nida, Bryant (Anna) Nida, and Lauren (Blake) Daniel; sister, Donna Kay Hall; brother, Doug Nida; sister-in-law, Debbie Hood; mother-in-laws, Sharon Holland and Teresa Bryant; five grandchildren, Nohlan Nida, Maks Nida, Titus Nida, Jackson Nida, and Joanna Nida; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Terry Nida to the Hixson First Baptist Church 5800 Grubb Road Hixson, TN 37343.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 12 noon at Hixson First Baptist Church with Brother Eddie Cantrell, Dr. John Boldt, MD, and Dr. Steven Granger officiating.  Terry will lie in state at the church from 10:00a.m. until the funeral hour.

Interment will follow in the TN-GA Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 4-8p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, Rossville, GA.
