Hiroko W. “Violet” Hays, 89 of Flintstone, GA went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 22, 2021.
Violet was born on January 17, 1932 in Tokyo, Japan and became a US citizen in the late 1950s. She was a member of Lookout Missionary Baptist Church. Violet was a wonderful seamstress and a master knitter. She said that “wearing a hand knitted garment was like getting a hug from a loved one.” Violet and her husband, Olin, owned and operated many businesses together in the Chattanooga area. In their free time, Violet and Olin enjoyed traveling together all over the United States.
Violet was preceded in death by her loving husband of over 50 years, Olin Lee Hays, Jr.; parents, Sakutaro and Tokie Watanabe; brother, Yasuhiro Watanabe all of Japan; parents-in-law, Olin and Gladys Hays, Sr.; sister-in-law, Mary Walker; and brother-in-law, Morgan Hays all of the United States.
Survivors include her son, Chris L. (Denise) Hays of Rossville, GA; grandson, Carter B. Hays of Nashville, TN; sister, Kazuko Nakahara; brother, Kiyoshi Watanabe; three nieces and one nephew all of Japan; brother-in-law, Kenneth (Dorothy) Hays; and several nieces and nephews all of the United States.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Rosewood Assisted Living and Hospice of Chattanooga for their kind and compassionate care.
Graveside services will be held on Saturday, June 5th, 2021 at 10am in the High Point Cemetery.
