Walter Howell Scott

April 4, 1934 ~ February 13, 2018 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Walter Howell “Pete” Scott, 83, of Ringgold went to heaven on Tuesday, February 13, 2018.  He was born April 4, 1934, to Walter and Edna Scott in LaFayette, GA where he attended Lafayette High School.  He was a Deacon at Fairview Baptist Church in Rossville, GA and a member of the Harvester’s Sunday School Class.

At the early age of 18, Pete joined the U.S. Navy and served four years.  He was stationed on the USS Missouri during the Korean War.  He married the love of his life Montine Scott, and settled down in the Fairview Community in Rossville, GA, where they raised their two children, Phyllis and DeWayne.

He started his employment at Roadway and Central Soya.  He then worked as a manager at Chattanooga Bolt and Screw for twenty-eight years before retiring.  He returned to work at Atlas Bolt for the next twenty plus years and was still working part time.

To know Pete was to love him.  He was always known for finding the good in life, having a smile on his face, his big heart and outgoing personality.  He was an exceptional human being, a loving husband and amazing father with extraordinary dedication and love for his grandsons.  He was a devoted Christian man who was dedicated to his church and loved the time spent with his church family.

Everyone dies but not everyone lives.  Pete Scott was a life well lived, an example for us to follow.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Edna Scott; daughter, Phyllis Scott; and two brothers, Paul Kelly and Bill Scott.

Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Montine Scott; one son, DeWayne (Tammy) Scott; three grandsons, Dylan, Noah, and Stephen Scott; one sister, Sheila (Ray) Manley; and numerous nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Fairview Baptist Church 108 N Jenkins Rd, Rossville, GA 30741.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 1:00p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Reverend Jim Bennett officiating.

Interment will follow in the TN-GA Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 4-8p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
