William E. (Bill or Skip) Baker, 71, a resident of Boise, Idaho and formerly of Rossville, GA, passed away Thursday, June 17, 2021, in Boise, ID. He was born in Chattanooga, TN, and spent his early years in Gainesville, FL, and Rossville. He served 4 years in the Navy, then returned to Rossville to be a machinist at Valley Machine and Welding of Chattanooga. He later moved to the Atlanta area to work at Lockheed Martin, retiring in 2009 after 20 years of service. During his retirement, Mr. Baker and his wife, Betty, moved into an RV and traveled the country. They visited their 49th and final state, Hawaii, in 2019. They moved to Boise, Idaho, in May of 2020.
Mr. Baker loved muscle cars; diving trips with his son, Shane; rock guitar; square dancing; and family reunions with his father’s extended family. He also enjoyed swapping stories with Navy buddies at the annual reunions of former USS San Marcos crew members.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Michael Anthony Baker.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Betty Waive Hilbrant Baker; his son from his second marriage, William Shane Baker; his brother, Timothy Stephen (Gerri) Baker; his son from his first marriage, Anthony Stephen (Janice) Baker; a granddaughter; three nieces, and a nephew.
The memorial service for Mr. Baker is at 1:00 PM on Saturday, July 17, at Lane Funeral Home South Crest Chapel, 833 Chickamauga Avenue, Rossville, GA. Visitation begins at 11:00 AM.
