Richard E. “Peanut” Gladney, 74, of Chattanooga, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 1, 2017 in a local hospital, surrounded by his family.
Peanut was born on July 2, 1943 to the late Charlie & Mittie Jewel Hicks Gladney. He worked at Goins Waste Oil Company for over 30 years until he suffered a stroke in 2006. Peanut loved doing for others and helping out in any way, watching Nascar, dirt track racing, and attending car shows. He particularly enjoyed family get-togethers with relatives that he was raised with on Sand Mountain. Peanut was loved by everyone and will be truly missed. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Tom Gladney.
Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce Gladney; sons, Damon (Paula) Gladney and Chad Gladney, all of Chattanooga; grandson, Zac Gladney; granddaughter, Morgan Gladney, both of Chattanooga; brothers, Jimmy Gladney, Rome, GA, & George Campbell, Lookout Mountain, GA; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 6th at 2:00 p.m. in the South Crest Chapel with Rev. Gary Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memory Gardens, South with Zac Gladney, Steve Gladney, Shane Gladney, Tommy Lang, Scott Gladney, Josh Stiles, Steve Merciers, Michael Brooks, Stanley Stiles, and B.J. Goins serving as pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Monday from 4 – 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home & Crematory, at the end of historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
