Barbara Louise Beene, 87, of the Fairview Community went to her heavenly home on Thursday, May 11, 2017 at her residence in Rossville.  She had lived in the Fairview Community of Rossville for over 60 years.  She was an active member of Fairview Baptist Church where she was a choir member, Sunday School Teacher, Sunbeams Teacher, worked in the youth department, secretary of the Sunday School Department, and worked with VBS for over 30 years.  Mrs. Beene was a lifetime member of the Garden Clubs of America, member of the local and district PTA for over 40 years, and a member of the American Business Women’s Association for over 20 years.  Mrs. Beene was the Secretary at Happy Valley Elementary School for over 30 years and was a Cub Scout Den Mother.  She loved God, her family, her church family, reading, gardening, camping, fishing, sewing and was known as a “Mother and Grammy” to all children.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, Robert Denvil “Bob” Beene; infant son, Melvin Howard Beene; infant granddaughter, Mary Kathleen Beene; daughter-in-law, Jane Beene; parents, Howard and Flora Harper; sisters, Lucille Friel, Faye Aaron, and Shirley Pope; brothers, Howard L. Harper, Jr. and Ed Harper.

Left to cherish her memory is her loving family; sons and daughters-in-law, Denny (Loretta) Beene, Derreck Beene, and Darren (Valerie) Beene; daughter and son-in-law, Melanie (Chip) Owens; grandchildren, Jinna Brown, Zach (Jenny) Beene, Heather (Phillip) Booker, Megan Beene, Dale (Christy) Grisham, Robert Grisham, Tara (Jeremy) Swilley, Chanavi (Scott) Houser, Adam (Sarah) Beene, Andrea (Travis) Alford, Beth Beene, Andy (Ashley) Owens, and Katie Owens; 26 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Monday at 1:00p.m. at Fairview Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Bennett officiating.  Mrs. Beene will lie in state one hour prior to the service at the church.

Interment will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery where her grandsons will serve as pallbearers and the Vota Vita Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 4-8p.m. at the South Crest Chapel of Lane Funeral Home and Crematory, located at the end of Historic Missionary Ridge, Rossville.
